Finger Lakes Effect

Corning’s walkable trail, flaky pastry finds, and a quick pastry poll

There’s no shortage of beautiful views in the Finger Lakes, especially this time of year—but sometimes the most gorgeous flaky layers aren’t in the shale, they’re in the pastries!

Whether you’re picking up a croissant at a farmers market, or have a go-to bakery nearby, there are some pastries worth bragging about around here.

If you’re into buttery croissants, flavored Danishes, or maybe even an Apple Fritter, I want to know:

👉 Where is your favorite pastry in the Finger Lakes?

Your pick might show up in a future edition (and send me on a delicious errand).

🥾 TRAIL OF THE WEEK: Corning Painted Post Trail

If you’re looking for an easy, accessible trail for a laid-back stroll or bike ride, the Corning Painted Post Trail is a solid pick. This 3.8-mile path runs from Painted Post into Corning and offers peaceful views, local wildlife, and close proximity to downtown Corning (hello, post-hike beverage or snack).

Forks On The Road: Eats & Drinks

Flake: Just So Good!

I picked up some bread last week from Woodpepper, and while there, Dane pointed out some croissants from Flake—I hadn’t heard of them, but Jeney and I split one and were amazed. Easily one of the best croissants we’ve had in years.

Fast forward a week: I pre-ordered for Saturday… but didn’t pay close attention and showed up on Friday to locked doors. I was heartbroken.

Gorgeous pastry pics from the Flake website.

Thankfully, I was only heartbroken for 24 hours—until I got to pick up my pre-order and work my way through a laugenecke, lemon wheel, almond croissant, and a chocolatine. And yes, I do run a lot—partly for the food. 😆

Crime-scene recreation of the partially eaten Chocolatine

It was so good, I didn’t get any photos—just this crime-scene recreation of a half-eaten chocolatine.

If you’re around Ithaca, or within driving distance, put in a pre-order for Saturday and treat yourself—you’ll be glad you did!

See You Out There
