You've probably heard of the Cornell chicken recipe. You might not know there's a marker in Lansing for the man behind it all, Bob Baker. He developed the recipe and the cooking method to support fundraising by community groups.

On top of local food lore, there’s a food-based fundraiser in the same area coming up (check out the "Quick Hits" section) and the Quarterly snail mail has a chicken recipe of its own.

Oh, and don't forget to thank Mr. Baker the next time you have a chicken nugget. He invented those too.

📮 QUARTERLY UPDATE 📮

The first-ever Finger Lakes Effect Quarterly is nearly halfway sold out.

And the Quarterly is getting an upgrade. Since it’s a quarterly, how about a look ahead and big events, annual happenings, and special occasions over the next three months?

Add that to everything else, and now I just need to make sure the envelopes can still close.

Sneak peek at a test page!

🔔 QUICK HITS 🔔

  1. Fellow reader Tim, won a free copy of Factory Stories by Harry Littell. Tim and many others correctly answered last week’s quiz about the plane built at what is now Southworks during WWI. The launch event takes place this week on Thursday, see events below for details. Thanks to everyone who participated!

  1. Genoa in 3D - This one is more than an event, so I wanted to share some details here. Thanks to Ivan at the Northville Arts Center for reaching out and sharing this! Vince Slaugh built the exhibit in collaboration with the Genoa Historical Association. Put on a pair of the 3D glasses they hand out and you're looking at Genoa through stereoviews from the 1870s and 1880s.

  1. Feast For The Future - Farm To Feast is prepping for their next steps and they want you in on it Thursday, August 13th!

    Here’s what’s going down:
    🎶 Live music
    Drag performances
🎧 A DJ to keep the party going
🍽️ An all-you-can-eat feast, featuring the incredible local ingredients we love from our favorite farms and butchers.

  1. Speaking of food and good times, Dinner Club in Watkins Glen was a blast! Thanks to everyone who came out, and I loved the feedback. Lots of new ideas to think over (post dinner dancing, or chef’s table, anyone?). August and September Dinner Club locations have been posted, check them out and register here.
