Well, look at that. Edition 52. The Finger Lakes Effect just turned one year old.

One year ago I sent the very first edition of this newsletter to a handful of people, honestly just hoping it would be helpful and worth the read.

A year later, the replies, poll votes, and event submissions you all send in tell me it has been. That means a lot.

Now, back to regularly scheduled programming. Easter is Sunday, pollen counts are climbing, and there's plenty happening around the lakes this week.

Let's get into it.

🚜 FARM TO FEAST 🍽️

I got to sit down with Mary & Jason, the two wonderful people behind Farm To Feast in Ithaca.

We talked about what they’re cooking up, why they do what they do, and more. Check out the short video above or click here.

They’re serving up some delicious food in Ithaca, highly recommend swinging by. Two favorites I keep hearing about (and have had one of) are the ramen and the breakfast burrito.

Are you someone, or do you know someone, I should sit down with for a chat like this? Let me know here!

Rosalie’s Cucina - This restaurant won’t leave you hungry, and good luck escaping without some cookies from the bakery around back!

Flint & Stave - One group at last week’s Finger Lakes Effect Dinner Club met up here and had great things to say about the food. Adding it to my list, and maybe you should too. By the way, the next Dinner Club is posted. Sign up for Canandaigua on April 30th!

Safety

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of the Finger Lakes region, with heavy rain expected earlier in the week and continuing to impact the area.

Open Mic Nights?

A question from some Finger Lakes Effect readers - where are the open mic nights? Music or comedy, or something else entirely. Know of one? Hit reply or submit it here.

Run Club

Get out and get active while meeting some new friends at the Lucky Hare run club. Whether you’re chasing a PR, jogging your first mile, or bringing the whole family along for a walk, everyone is welcome. Meetups happen every Wednesday at 5:45 PM for a group stretch, then head out for the run at 6:00 PM sharp—rain or shine. After the run, receive 10% off your tab if you feel like grabbing a drink or a bite to eat.

🧝 Elf in the Oak: A Solid Stop Along the Wine Trail 🧝

If you're spending time hiking the Finger Lakes National Forest, Elf in the Oak makes for a reliable breakfast stop. Tucked along Route 414 near Burdett with a glimpse of Seneca Lake, it's a friendly, unpretentious spot with a cozy covered back porch and a menu that covers the classics well.

You order at the window and find a seat. The Spicy — capicola, egg, cheddar, roasted jalapeño, caramelized onion, and house-made hot sauce on a spicy Italian bagel — delivers on its name.

The sausage gravy and biscuit, made in-house with local sausage, is hearty and satisfying.

The Chicken and Waffles delivers exactly what you want with fried chicken on a waffle.

And per our own habit, the cinnamon roll is worth adding to your order.

We've heard good things about their lunch menu too, and are curious to give it a try on a future visit.

A good stop, especially if the trail calls for it.
