Finger Lakes Effect

From Buttermilk Falls to peach cruffins—help choose our next meetup!

Schools are going to be starting back up, and summer just might eventually start to give way to cooler mornings and earlier sunsets.

For some, that means one last chance to squeeze in lake time.

For others, it’s the excitement of crisp fall air, apple cider, and colorful hikes just around the corner.

With all that in mind, I’d love your input: what should the next Finger Lakes Effect meetup be? (Vote in the poll below!)

🥾 TRAIL OF THE WEEK: Buttermilk Falls Gorge & Rim Trail Loop

Looking for a hike with maximum waterfall payoff in minimum time? The Gorge and Rim Loop at Buttermilk Falls State Park starts with a dramatic cascade and winds past pools, stone steps, and shaded forest—all in less than two miles. Not a ton of water right now, but still a great hike with some fun views.

Forks On The Road: Eats & Drinks

Resilience Bakery: Baking The World A Better Place

Resilience Bakery in Canandaigua is one of those places that makes you glad you went a little out of your way. This stop came from one of your survey suggestions—and we’re so glad it did. We love following your recommendations, and it’s been fun to explore the places you send us.

The standout was the peach cruffin, a seasonal masterpiece dusted in granulated sugar with just a whisper of cinnamon. The flaky, buttery layers gave way to a bright peach filling that was sweet and refreshing. Every bite felt like summer wrapped in pastry!

We also tried the Supreme Nutella Croissant, which leaned to the decadent side. Rich and dense, with layers packed tight around a chocolate-hazelnut center, it’s indulgence on full display—best enjoyed slowly with a strong coffee or shared between two.

We couldn’t resist the ginger snickerdoodle—super soft, light, and exactly what you’d imagine if a ginger cookie and a snickerdoodle had the perfect doodle baby.

Resilience is a gem for those who appreciate seriously good baking. And to our readers—thank you for sending us on this delicious detour. Keep those ideas coming; we can’t wait to discover more with you!
